Based on true events, The Mothman Prophecies will keep you guessing from beginning to end. A man trying to find answers, a town that cant believe their eyes. Will questions be answered or will they leave you guessing?
I have mixed feelings about this movie. For some reason I found it very odd. If this is real, why was this the first time I heard of the Mothman? Also, is the story line real or just the events? And finally if these events happen on a regular basis world wide, why hasnt Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, or even Oprah discussed them? Hmm
just a thought.
This movie was a suspenseful thriller. I think it freaked me out more because of the fact it was a true story. However, the acting was pretty decent, and Richard Gere is aging real fast. I cant say this is one of his best films, but its also not his worst. I was disappointed that Debra Messing had such a short role; hopefully we will see her in more movies in the future.
Is this movie worth the price of admission? Only if you have some sort of discount but this one can definitely be watched on DVD or video. Is it worth seeing again? No, unless for some reason I start seeing or hearing the Mothman. |

I went into this flick looking for a good scare, but I didn't get it. It turned out only to be a little freaky at times. Although I did like it, The Mothman Prophecies let me down. It had all the ingredients needed to be awesome: the all-knowing supernatural entity, the UFO-like sightings, and the chilling prophecies that come true. The mix just never came together for long enough periods of time to keep my heart racing. There were some good scary moments, but the low points in between were just too long and too low.
It seems like most new scary movies are letting me down in some way like this one did. The Blair Witch Project, for example, had some scary moments but with just a few tweaks I think it could have become The Exorcist of the 90s. This flick too just needed a few things added. We needed to see more of the Mothman and maybe an ancient story of the Mothman to start off the movie to kind of set the stage for the whole movie. Is The Mothman Prophecies worth the price of admission? Even though it didnt scare me as much as I wanted it to, Id say it is worth it. Is it worth seeing again? No, not until the director asks me how to fix it and does.
